Who We Are

For 30 years, Communities In Schools of Wake County (CIS Wake) has worked to ensure a positive impact on students and families in Wake County. We’ve partnered with Wake County Public School System (WCPSS), the state’s largest school district, as well as with area charter schools to improve students’ academic performance. CIS Wake also partners with Raleigh Housing Authority serving students and families who live in Raleigh Housing Authority communities across the county. We are part of the CIS National network of 131 local affiliates serving more than 1.56 million students in 25 states. (More Info…)

Our Pact for Impact

We recognize the unique, varied experiences of our students, staff, and community. We believe in the amplification of ALL voices and foster an inclusive environment where people who represent diverse backgrounds or identities can feel free, welcomed, and valued. We are proud to celebrate the differences that make each individual we encounter unique and continue to make a commitment to prioritizing equitable access, resources, and opportunities for the many lives whom we impact.

Our Vision

Communities In Schools of Wake County (CIS Wake) helps schools remove the barriers that put students at risk of wasting their potential.

Our Mission

We surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

Our Approach

We provide individualized case management that tracks and increases student performance in attendance, behavior, and course work.

Our Values

We believe that every student deserves:

  1. A one-on-one relationship with a caring adult (academic coaches, mentors, volunteers, tutors)
  2. A safe place to learn and grow (in-school and after-school tutorial programs)
  3. A healthy start and a healthy future (proper nutrition and positive reinforcement)
  4. A chance to give back to peers and the community (community service opportunities)
  5. A marketable skill to use upon graduation (professional and leadership development).
