Communities In Schools of Wake County (CIS Wake) helps schools remove the barriers that put students at risk of wasting their potential. The mission of CIS Wake is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. For more than 20 years, CIS Wake has partnered with the Wake County Public School System with the ultimate goal for each student to achieve high school graduation and create a path toward post-secondary education or entry into a professional career.
Today, CIS Wake impacts more than 2,039 students in nine schools and five community-based learning centers. It is one of 38 local affiliates across the state of North Carolina serving students in 44 counties, and a part of a national network of 181 local affiliates serving more then 1.3 million students in 25 states. The network works to determine student needs and establishes relationships with local businesses, social service agencies, health care providers, and parent and volunteer organizations to facilitate access to needed resources.
Communities in Schools of Wake County, along with Communities in Schools of Durham, have been selected as the 2014 nonprofit partner of Band Together for their annual fund raising event. Proceeds raised at the 2014 event will have a profound impact for the organization and will be an opportunity to leverage additional awareness and support for its mission.
