A National Problem: Parents and students in many urban and rural areas in the United States don’t have access to high-quality and rigorous but affordable academic enrichment. According to a 2000 report entitled Working for Children and Families: Safe and Smart After-School Programs published jointly by the U.S. Departments of Education and Justice in 2000, “There is a chronic shortage of after-school programs available to serve children. Demand for school-based after-school programs outstrips supply at a rate of about two to one..”
SMART Weekend meets on Saturdays or Sundays for three hours each session for intensive instruction. Parents will choose one day per weekend for their student(s). Led by certified teachers, scientists and researchers, instruction emphasizes:
The SMART Academy helps students enrolled in SMART centers nationwide maximize academic resources through technology.
The mission of the SMART Academy in grades (pre-K through 12) is to develop the 21st Century thinking skills of students in math and language arts.
During one three-hour block we offer affordable project-based learning, interactive instruction and small group instruction during weekends for up to 20 weeks per academic year and homework assistance during the week featuring certified teachers. In addition, academic coaches will be available on-line and on-demand as an added benefit and service.
