Travis has over 20 years of media, marketing, management, non-profit leadership and social entrepreneurship experience. After receiving his B.A. in Broadcast Journalism from Morgan State University in 1992, Travis went on to become the executive vice president and chief operating officer for MBC Network, a start-up cable channel based in Atlanta, GA. While there he launched MBC’s award-winning sports and news divisions and increased its distribution from three cities to 3,600 cities, 48 states, and 31 million homes.
Travis’ passion for the vision and mission of CIS Wake permeates through everything he does, and CIS Wake continues to thrive under his leadership. Since joining the team in 2010, Travis has positioned CIS Wake to receive its national accreditation from the Communities In Schools national office; launch its SMART Academy program that develops the 21st century skills of students I math and language arts; raise over $2MM in funding, and expand it academic case management and enrichment services to over 6,000 students in Wake County.
Travis has received certifications in Performance Measurements for Effective Management of Non-Profit Organizations from the Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government and in Social Entrepreneurship from Coursera. He has also received a Master of Science (MS), Education Entrepreneurship, from the University of Pennsylvania’s, Graduate School of Education. He is an active member of the Board of Trustees of UNC TV.
